This year, the British Irish Chamber of Commerce launched its #MyAmbition Initiative for Future Leaders in our Council Level firms. This new Initiative is designed to deepen our member’s engagement and provide a unique environment for nominees to assimilate knowledge from guest speakers and to learn key business development skills whilst networking with peers; peers who will be their future clients and suppliers. The Initiative is dedicated to discussing the key issues of today, including technology, skills and sustainability amongst others.

The #MyAmbition launch took place on Wednesday 12 June 2019 at an event entitled ‘Disrupted Future? Brexit and Industry 4.0 – challenges or opportunities?’ featuring a keynote presentation from Caroline Curtis, VP International Finance and Operations, Nuance Communications Ireland on the topic of Industry 4.0 and the Digital Transformation and a Brexit Update from Head of Brexit Policy Katie Daughen.

This was followed by a lively discussion on the increasing role of technology in our everyday lives and its impact on society. The event, which took place in the Chamber’s Offices was attended by sixty nominees and delegates from the Chamber’s Council level member firms.

The second #MyAmbition event took place on Tuesday 22 October 2019 in partnership with Chartered Accountants Leinster Society. The event focused on ‘Promoting Sustainability in Business. Policies and Practices for a Greener Present and Future’ and was addressed by a panel of experts including Breandán Goss, European Accelerator Programme Manager, TCD Tangent, Karen Ciesielski, CEO, Irish Environmental Network and Bernadette Phelan, Head of Advisory Services, Business in the Community Ireland and moderated by Brian Murphy, Chairman, Chartered Accountants Leinster Society.

Panellists discussed the importance of green finance and investment in green policies, how emerging leaders can promote sustainability in their workplaces and what sustainable initiatives have proven successful at a local, national and international level.

Following this, our nominees joined us for an evening reception in December to mark the UK General Election. Attendees networked, discussed the outcome and their predictions and watched as live results rolled in from across the UK.

Many thanks to all of our speakers, partners and nominees for their support for #MyAmbition this year. Plans are already in place for the expansion of #MyAmbition in the New Year and beyond and we are looking forward to working with all of our nominees and Council members on the Initiative going forward.
